Zelle Hofmann Obtains Settlement in Major 9/11 Insurance Case

October 3, 2009

On October 2, 2009, a federal court in New York entered an order dismissing Allianz Global Risks US Insurance Company from a lawsuit and appraisal relating to insurance claims made by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for property damage and business interruption caused by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. Both Allianz and the Port Authority were pleased to reach an amicable resolution of this matter.

In February 2008, Allianz and other insurers won a significant summary judgment ruling, rejecting the Port Authority's attempt to claim under its separate insurance program for property damage to the Twin Towers and other portions of the World Trade Center Property also insured under the Silverstein (World Trade Center Properties LLC) insurance program.

Catherine Colinvaux and Steve Rogers represented Allianz in the settlement negotiations and legal proceedings, assisted by a team of Zelle Hofmann attorneys, including Pat St. Peter, Brett Wallingford, Seth Jackson, Kristin Heres, Elizabeth Kniffen, Jennifer Geelan, Shawn Stuckey, Kristin Cummings, Jennifer Gibbs and Lindsey Bruning. Zelle Hofmann has represented Allianz in this matter and other insurance disputes related to the 9/11 terrorist attack since September 2001.
