Zelle Announces 2017 Diversity in Law Scholarship Recipient

February 15, 2018

Zelle LLP is pleased to announce Stephani Roman as the recipient of the firm’s 2017 Diversity in Law Scholarship. Roman will receive a financial scholarship of $15,000 for her second year and, if her GPA at the end of his second year is at least a 3.0, then she will receive the additional $15,000 for her third year. This award is to be applied toward her law school tuition, fees and text books. She will also be assigned a mentor at the firm for her remaining law school career.

Roman is a second-year law student at University of Connecticut School of Law, where she serves as symposium editor and was a member of the Connecticut Law Review. She received her bachelor of science degree in environmental science and economics from Trinity College. As an undergraduate, she received the Posse Foundation Full-Tuition Leadership Scholarship and the Environmental Science Senior Price for academic achievement. She was also social chair of La Voz Latina Organization.

“Zelle’s Diversity in Law Scholarship will open doors for me in the legal profession and will be significantly impactful to me as I am the first member of my Puerto Rican family to pursue a professional degree,” said Roman.

Roman is currently a consultant in the strategic claims management group at The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., where she analyzes commercial and product liability insurance coverage in connection with litigation in various jurisdictions.

The Diversity in Law Scholarship is the keystone of the firm's Diversity Outreach Plan and was created for second-year law students who either (1) are a member of a diverse group that is historically underrepresented in the private practice of law; or (2) demonstrate a long-standing commitment to diversity that will be furthered by award of the scholarship.
