The Scope of Property Insurance Appraisals in California

Zelle Hofmann attorneys Christopher Micheletti and José Umbert authored an article entitled "The Scope of Property Insurance Appraisals in California," published in the July 7, 2011 issue of Insurance Law360. Two decisions issued this year by the California Court of Appeal reflect the limited scope of insurance appraisals in the state in comparison to other jurisdictions. To ensure that appraisal remains an effective method for resolution of property insurance disputes, practitioners need to be aware of the limitations on the jurisdiction of appraisers imposed by the California courts.
