Zelle Hofmann attorneys Jason Reeves and Thomas H. Cook, Jr., and Warren Diogo of Ascot Underwriting Ltd authored an article entitled "Underwriting The Wind," published in the December 20, 2010 issue of Insurance Law360. As wind energy moves from a niche to a mainstream energy issue, a number of insurance problems arise. Underwriters for wind installations should make sure they have critical information about turbines, like loss histories, performance issues and the manufacturer's warranty, as well as information about the government subsidies that allow most wind installations to turn a profit, to ensure that they aren't working in the dark.
