Brandt Johnson to present at 2025 PLRB Large Loss Conference

November 13, 2025

Brandt Johnson will present at the 2025 Property & Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB) Large Loss Conference in Grapevine, TX with Howard Altschule (Forensic Weather Consultants) and Annette Tarquinio (Engle Martin and Associates).

Back to the Future: How Adjusters Can Use Forensic Meteorology in Hail and Wind Claims

The weather is getting worse. Hailstorms, windstorms and other weather perils are becoming more common across the country. Along with these storms come large loss claims, often with multi-million dollar price tags, with dates of loss that are often based on NOAA hail reports from a distant location or which are often plotted in the wrong place. Non-meteorologists also sometimes misinterpret what the weather data is actually saying. For these reasons and others it’s never been more important to determine what the weather conditions were at the property, if damage occurred, what caused the damage, and when it occurred. Participants will learn about the latest tools, technology and information that meteorologists, engineers, insurance adjusters, and attorneys have available to investigate a claim or lawsuit. We will discuss the importance of using experienced Forensic Meteorologists and the value they bring when conducting “site-specific” analyses and historical hail studies that adjusters and engineers can use to support the adjustment and litigation process. Since hail sizes, wind speeds, and the weather conditions can and do change dramatically over short distances, we will show the importance of doing these analyses and studies for the specific loss location.

The presentation will take place on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 9:30 am - 11:30 am CT and Friday, November 14, 2025, from 8:00 am - 10:00 am CT. More information can be found here
