Contingent business interruption coverage is a relatively recent insurance product, but as one commentator has noted, it addresses business risks that have been around as long as commerce itself. The objective of contingent business interruption coverage (and contingent extra expense coverage) is to extend the basic business interruption coverage concept to business losses stemming from damage to the property of others as opposed to the insured’s own property.
